Greater Cumberland Baptist Church is an independent Baptist church located in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, the beautiful area of western Kentucky locally known at the Pennyrile. The church is easily accessible from anywhere in the Ft. Campbell, Kentucky and Clarksville, Tennessee area.
Greater Cumberland Baptist began in a renovated dance studio on September 16, 2001, just a few short days after the 9/11 terrorist attack. Greater Cumberland was founded by Pastor Shaver and his family, out of the ministry of Windsor Hills Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. God blessed in a great way and many were led to Christ and others were brought together to help this new work of God. Since her inception, the church has been through several building and remodeling programs, having most recently completed an 11,000 square foot project in the Spring of 2008.
The church ministers in various ways, including graded Sunday School classes, where our children are given relevant Bible lessons; weekly discipleship training, where adults are taught, one-on-one, Biblical truths that establish new believers in their Christian walk; and Titus Two Fellowships, where our ladies, from a Biblical perspective, are encouraged by other godly women. Greater Cumberland Baptist Church is grateful to be actively supporting missionaries at home and abroad, with several families from the church in training for future works. The church also is blessed to send a family to a closed country in Eastern Asia where they are having a successful work.
Because of our proximity to Ft. Campbell, the church has a very active ministry to the military community and the soldiers of the 101st. Recently, numerous soldiers from Greater Cumberland have returned from service in the combat zones of Iraq and Afghanistan, and the church was able to be a help to the families in a great way during that time.
Greater Cumberland Baptist Church believes it is a privilege to serve a "Lord, high and lifted up," in 2009, and is expecting great things from God.
